Youth Leadership Activities
Rotarians believe that the future lies in the hands of our youth.  We work to prepare our children for the road ahead by developing leadership skills in fun, interactive programs.

Orange Sunrise Rotary is the sponsor of the El Modena Interact Club, on the El Modena High School campus in Orange, California.  The Interact club has more than 30 members, dedicated to community service.  Interacters have cleaned our local parks and creekbeds, served meals to senior citizens, raised money in the Orange County Aids Walk, collected books for the Reading by 9 program and have worked hard every year at the Orange Plaza Car Show, our club's annual fundraiser.  Each year, Orange Sunrise Rotary awards a $1,000 scholarship to the most outstanding Interact club member.

The nearly 50 clubs of Rotary District 5320 join together each year to fund the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards, a three-day leadership camp for high school juniors held in the mountains of Idyllwild, California.  Orange Sunrise sends three campers every year to participate in outdoor games and events   designed to teach teamwork and leadership skills.  After attending the camp as a junior, students return as alumni the following year to plan, organize and present RYLA to the next wave of campers.

The clubs of Rotary District 5320 hold an annual speech contest for high school students.  Each year, students speak at Rotary clubs on the current Rotary International theme.  Winners then participate at the area level, involving four or five clubs.  The successful area winner advances to the District finals, where four winners are awarded scholarships of $500 each.  In addition to winning money for their education, students develop the confidence and public speaking skills they will need as tomorrow's leaders.
